What You Should Know About Your Sheriffs Office The Logan County Sheriffs Office is responsible for providing law enforcement services to all Logan County. Who is Your County Sheriff? The Sheriff is the Chief Law Enforcement Officer of the County. Unlike municipal police departments, whose enforcement authority is restricted to their individual boundaries, and the State Highway Patrol, who has statewide authority to enforce traffic laws but whose authority to enforce criminal laws is limited to state highways and property, the Sheriff and his deputies have the authority to enforce all laws anywhere within their county. Your Sheriff is unique among law enforcement professionals. The Sheriff is the only elected law enforcement official in the State of Ohio. Every four years the Sheriff must run for election. This makes his record and the way he operates his office accountable to the citizens and the voters of his county. The Sheriff is a professional, trained in the latest law enforcement techniques and criminal justice procedures. Your Sheriffs Office Serves and Protects in Many Ways! Your Sheriffs Office performs many different and diverse functions. From providing law enforcement services to registering sex offenders, the Logan County Sheriffs Office serves the citizens of Logan County in many ways. POLICE SERVICES The Logan County Sheriffs Office provides law enforcement services to all areas of Logan County. For the most part these services are concentrated in areas that do not have their own police department. When requested, Deputies do assist other agencies and will conduct investigations in other jurisdictions in the county when required. JAIL OPERATION By law, the Sheriff shall have charge of the county jail and all persons confined therein. The Logan County Jail was built in 2000 and has a current capacity of 140 prisoners. State-of-the-Art technology is used in the booking process and the daily operations of the jail. TRAFFIC CONTROL Logan County Sheriffs Deputies are professionally trained in traffic control and accident investigation. The majority of traffic enforcement and accident investigation in Logan County is performed by the Sheriffs Office. COMMUNICATIONS The Logan County Sheriffs Office Communications Center is one of the most modern in the State of Ohio. The Sheriffs Office Communications Center serves as the Central Dispatch and 9-1-1 Emergency Center for Logan County and dispatches all agencies in Logan County except Bellefontaine. CIVIL PROCESS SERVICE Sheriffs are the agency primarily responsible for supporting the courts and for the service of "court papers" in the State. These include summonses, subpoenas and other papers issued by the courts. When ordered by the courts Sheriffs also do evictions, repossessions, and attach and sell property. SPECIALIZED PROGRAMS The Logan County Sheriff’s Office performs many special functions. These include Litter Control and Enforcement, Drug Enforcement Dog, Safety Town, Golf Cart Inspections and many other community related programs. |
